I wanted to highlight this post written by TF Stern. It is well worth the read, and most definetly fits my goal of this site. Enjoy.

Relief Society Lesson, Joseph Smith #23 How great it is to dwell together in Unity.

Filed under: Faith, Charity, Gratitude, lessons

(In preparation I plan to have a picture of the Kirtland Temple, a china tea cup and saucer, a couple of hand made doilies, and a string of christmas lights with bulbs removed and given to the sisters in the room for an object activity near the end of the lesson)

On December 27, 1832, the Prophet Joseph Smith received a commandment from the Lord that the Saints were to begin building a temple in Kirtland (see D&C 88:119). On June 1, 1833, the Lord gave further instructions to the Prophet: “Now here is wisdom, and the mind of the Lord—let the house be built, not after the manner of the world … ; let it be built after the manner which I shall show unto three of you” (D&C 95:13–14). Joseph Smith lesson #19 Standing Fast through the Storms of Life

Filed under: Faith, Hope, Gratitude, trials, lessons

Wilford Woodruff, the fourth President of the Church, said: “The Lord told Joseph that He would prove him, whether he would abide in His covenant or not, even unto death. He did prove him; and although [Joseph] had the whole world to contend against and the treachery of false friends to withstand, although his whole life was a scene of trouble and anxiety and care, yet, in all his afflictions, his imprisonments, the mobbings and ill treatment he passed through, he was ever true to his God.”

The True Gifts of Life

Many years ago, and for many years I had difficulty with the concept of gratitude. Not that I wasn’t grateful for the blessings I had, indeed I was, but I felt guilty for wanting so much more. I wanted to stop working, I greatly desired that my husband could find a job that would bring that about. I prayed, I cried, and prayed some more. (more…)

Isaiah 64:3

Earlier this month I was reading in Isaiah 64, and made note of verse 3:

3 When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

things which we looked not for stuck out in my mind.

This has reference to signs of the Second Coming, but I believe it can also be applied in my life right now. What things am I not looking for that He has done?

I think it can be like the small and simple things that Tigersue mentioned on her blog

Letting someone go first in a grocery line, letting that car in trying to merge, smiling at people I don’t know and telling them Good day.

It applies to those silver linings in the clouds of adversity. Oy, those are hard to see!

I’m grateful for scripture and how the Spirit uses verses on gratitude to help me evaluate from time to time what I’m overlooking.
